Amazon Worker Forced to Work During Major Storm
Online commenters have called out Amazon after doorbell footage was released showing a Florida-based driver delivering products during Hurricane Nicole.
The footage was posted in Reddit’s “Next F****** Level” subreddit by David Satterfield, the owner of Deadwords Brewing Company in Orlando, Florida. Since being posted it has received around 50,000 upvotes and more than 2,000 comments.
Hurricane Nicole was a category 1 hurricane that hit south of Vero Beach on Thursday, November 10th. It reached sustained winds of around 75 miles per hour. The hurricane made its way through Central Florida, and it eventually turned into a Tropical storm.
Despite Nicole being a low-category storm, it still led to damage across Daytona Beach and led to power outages across Florida. Satterfield also noted that his neighborhood was hit harder by Nicole than by Hurricane Ian. As he noted this was what made it so surprising to see an Amazon driver making deliveries during the storm.
Satterfield told Newsweek that he had closed his brewery in order to “keep staff and customers safe” from Nicole. Still, as his brewery is right next to the “venue [of] the Electronic Daisy Carnival (EDC),” he ordered ten battery-pack phone chargers that he could loan out to those attending the Festival. He placed the order on Wednesday assuming that due to the storm “overnight” would mean that the products would be delivered on Friday, which is when he would need them for.
However, Sattersfueld was wrong as he noticed an Amazon driver pulling up at around 5 a.m. As he noted during that time both the rain and wind were intense.
The driver then hand-delivered the package, despite Satterfield motioning that he would go to her. He said that while he admired the driver’s “tenacity,” he should not have been making deliveries during the storm.
