(FeaturedNews.com) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez filed impeachment articles against two Supreme Court Justices.
On Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez followed through on a threat she made a week ago by introducing impeachment articles against Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito, alleging the pair had carried out “unchecked corruption.”
Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a statement that the “unchecked corruption crisis” enveloping the Supreme Court had “spiraled into a Constitutional crisis” that is “threatening American democracy.”
The New York Democrat then took aim at Alito and Thomas for refusing to recuse themselves from matters before the court where they have “widely documented financial and personal entanglements.” She described this refusal as a “grave threat to [the] American rule of law,” and the “clearest cases” requiring impeachment.
AOC claimed Alito and Thomas repeatedly failing to “disclose” receiving “millions of dollars in gifts from individuals with business before the court” is a violation of the law and described their “refusal to recuse” themselves in cases their spouses and benefactors are implicated “represents nothing less than a constitutional crisis.”
The New York Democrat’s Wednesday filing includes two articles of impeachment against Alito and three against Thomas.
Her charges against Alito include failing to disclose gifts and failing to recuse himself from cases where she alleges the Justice had a “personal bias or prejudice” regarding the party before the court.
Ocasio-Cortez’s charges against Thomas allege the Justice didn’t disclose gifts and refused to recuse himself in cases where his wife had a vested interest.
The New York Democrat had first threatened to file articles of impeachment after the Supreme Court’s ruling granting former Presidents’ immunity from prosecution.
Following the July 1 ruling, Ocasio-Cortez took to X to suggest SCOTUS had been “consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control,” and concluded that when Congress returned from its break, she would file the articles of impeachment.
