(FeaturedNews.com) – President Biden has unexpectedly canceled his speech honoring fallen police officers for National Police Week after he allegedly needed to attend his granddaughter’s graduation.

Biden was scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the National Fraternal Order of Police’s (FOP) National Peace Officers Memorial Service on Monday. However, he canceled his appearance last minute, despite the fact that his name was already printed in the event’s program. Attorney General Merrick Garland was sent in Biden’s place.

Instead of delivering his speech as scheduled, Biden attended his granddaughter’s graduation from the University of Pennsylvania. The graduation took place in the Biden Center, which last year was the center of a controversy following the discovery of classified documents in an office that Biden had previously used in that building.

On Monday, Biden issued a video statement to honor National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, in which he claimed that the solution was not defunding the police. The Democrats have been calling for the police to be defunded since 2020, but with these latest remarks, Biden is moving away from that movement and the members who support it.

Biden argued that defunding the police was not the correct choice and that instead, law enforcement agents needed to have the resources and training needed in order to protect their area and communities.

He proceeded to tout his success in signing the American Rescue Plan during the pandemic, which gave $350 billion to states and cities which could be used to provide benefits to first responders, hire additional officers, and pay overtime and bonuses.
