Biden Responds After Attack on Paul Pelosi

President Biden said that the attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) husband, who was in their San Francisco home, was “despicable”. He also added that this was in part caused by the lies being spread by key Republicans regarding the 2020 election being stolen.

Biden, who spoke to Pennsylvania Democrats recently, said that the entire incident was “despicable” and that currently there was too much hatred within the country. He added that claims of a stolen election, of COVID being a hoax, and other such lies, are clearly affecting people and creating a more violent climate.

The president believes that everyone now needs to stand up against violence, regardless of their political stance.

Biden has said that he had communicated with Nancy Pelosi and had even helped her with getting back to San Francisco as the Speaker was in Washington, D.C. at the time of the attack. Paul Pelosi, 82, had to undergo surgery because of a skull fracture, but is expected to fully recover from the incident.

The police have said that the attack probably took place around 2:30 a.m. Authorities discovered two men fighting over a hammer during their “priority well-being check.” The suspect then used the hammer and attacked Pelosi with it.

Before assaulting Paul Pelosi, the man had repeatedly asked “Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy?”

Biden quickly also pointed out that this was similar to the Jan. 6 2021 Capitol riot, when some of the rioters had searched and called for Nancy Pelosi.

Political violence has greatly increased over the past few years, and the attack on Paul Pelosi is only one of the latest exhibits of this violence.
