(FeaturedNews.com) – On Saturday afternoon, President Biden held a celebratory Pride Month event at the White House where he welcomed guests and showed the administration’s support for the rights of the LGBTQ community. The event took place only days after he announced new protection measures for the community.

The picnic event had originally been scheduled for Thursday, but because of the air quality issues caused by the Canada wildfires, it had to be rescheduled for Saturday. Once the haze was almost cleared, the President and first lady, Jill Biden addressed attendees.

In his remarks, Biden said that they wanted to send their message to the LGBTQ community, to let them know that they were “loved,” “heard,” and that they “belong.” He added that all of them deserve to be treated with respect and dignity arguing that protecting the rights of the LGBTQ community was a “top priority” for him.

He proceeded to point out that many federal agencies had announced rules that would help support the community on Thursday. Many of these measures are specifically aiming to counteract the measures that GOP-led states have imposed which are specifically targeting transgender groups. Biden argued that regardless of what members of the community were doing, including running businesses, focusing on school, or organizing events, they should not be forced to deal with threats, attacks, and harassment.

He noted that while a lot of progress has already been made, there are also challenges that they need to face.

The event had many notable attendees including Transportation Sec. Buttigieg, Asst. Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, and Delaware state Senator Sarah McBride.
