(FeaturedNews.com) – On Wednesday, during his visit to Warsaw, Poland, President Biden addressed the Bucharest Nine (B9). The name has been given to the group of eastern European nations, which includes Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, that belong to NATO.

Biden’s appearance at the B9 meeting comes after Biden’s surprise trip to Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During his speech, Biden praised the NATO allies and reiterated the United States’ commitment to continue to support its allies against Russian aggression. Biden’s presence in the area during this time is particularly symbolic as it has been close to a year since Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, which led to an ongoing war.

Biden told officials from the B9 countries that they knew “better than anyone” the threats of this conflict and what was at stake. He further pointed out that if Russia’s attacks extend to any NATO member the U.S. would be there to assist and help fend off the attack. He further added that the U.S. was committed to protecting “every inch of NATO” and that they had made a commitment to article 5.

Article 5 of the NATO treaty states that an attack against any one member of the NATO agreement is considered an attack against all members. It also notes that other member countries of NATO would use armed force to help in the conflict faced by the attached member state.
