(FeaturedNews.com) – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden predicted the next President would be able to appoint two Supreme Court Justices.

While campaigning at Girard College in Philadelphia to launch “Black Voters for Biden-Harris,” Biden claimed the next President would be “able to appoint a couple of justices.”

In his efforts to court Black voters, Biden promised to add progressive Justices to the bench if he is reelected.

He noted that if some Justices retire and can be replaced by “really progressive judges,” it would be life-changing, given the predominantly conservative Trump-appointed Justices had overturned Roe and are “gutting voting rights” and “decimating affirmative action.”

Biden’s prediction he would get more progressive Justices on the bench follows a call last month that the most senior liberal Justice, Sonia Sotomayor, step down, while Democrats are in the White House and Senate and could secure her replacement by a liberal judge.

The idea is rooted in left-wing commentators and activists who have pushed to prevent a repeat of what occurred when Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg refused to step down during the Obama administration in 2014.

Ginsburg passed in September 2020 at the age of 87, during the last months of former President Donald Trump’s administration.

However, Senate Democrats haven’t latched onto the idea, which they’ve described as baffling, given Sotomayor is only 69.

Biden could be counting on the oldest jurists, Justice Clarence Thomas, 75, and Justice Samuel Alito,  74, retiring, as both have faced increasing backlash for their actions.

Alito has recently garnered the ire of progressives for refusing to recuse himself from a Trump-related case about the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
