(FeaturedNews.com) – A Bride, Lilly Mendoza, went viral on social media for choosing to create and decorate her own wedding cake for her marriage to Dennis Mendoza, an active-duty service member in Altamonte Springs, Florida, on May 14.
The wedding cake in question had multiple swirls of white and blue icing, fold flecks, vines of blue flowers, and other accents and white blooms at the bottom of the cake. The five-tier cake was decorated only hours before Mendoza had to walk down the aisle.
Mendoza told Fox News Digital that she had made her decision by choosing something that would be unique to them as a couple. The colors of the cake – blue, white, and gold, were the wedding theme colors, which meant that they came to fit in perfectly with the rest of the decorations.
Mendoza, who is also a U.S. Air Force veteran, holds a bachelor’s degree in applied food studies with a specialized focus on baking and pastries from the Culinary Institute of America. As she revealed, this is the first wedding cake that she had ever created and served.
Online wedding magazine The Knot’s 2022 Real Weddings Study in a recent survey of more than 12,000 couples from the U.S. found that on average the wedding cake costs $510. Mendoza managed to greatly save by making her own case while also showing off her pastry skills.
However, the 27-second video of her assembling the case went viral, and some of the commenters were less than pleasant, with many claiming that they did not like the color combinations and textures, and others arguing that the cake looked unfinished.
Still, Mendoza is not listening to the haters and has said that to her the experience was “amazing.”
