Miracle Story – Man Defies All Odds
Madison Stroup originally started posting on TikTok about her husband Zach’s journey with non-Hodgkin lymphoma as a way of raising awareness. The video, which has since been posted and received 18 million views and 3.4 million likes, tells the moving story of the couple’s young love and how the man managed to beat all of the odds.
The couple met when they were both in high school, but they did not start dating until later. In 2020, they were enjoying their life, as Madison was working as a hairstylist and Zach Stroup owned an insurance agency.
Zach, in an interview with TODAY, said that at the time, he was into bodybuilding. He didn’t feel the need to see a doctor due to his healthy lifestyle.
However, while on vacation in February of 2020, he started feeling aching in his joints, fatigue, and gastrointestinal problems. It took two months for him to be diagnosed with an inflammatory bowel disease known as Crohn’s disease.
Zach was immediately put on medication, but nothing seemed to be working and his body was losing weight fast. In November 2020 the man woke up with chest pain and a swollen lymph nose on his neck. Immediately the couple headed to the emergency room. It was there that the doctors asked for a CAT scan.
At the time cancer hadn’t been in their minds, but that was exactly the diagnosis that the doctor gave him – Zach had Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and it was an aggressive form.
However, even though the cancer was stage four, Zach managed to beat the odds after six rounds of chemotherapy, going into remission in March of 2021. In April of that same year, the Zach and Madison got engaged.
However, the man’s troubles were far from over. Six months later the doctors found a tumor in his thoracic spine. With the uncertainty of what was next, the couple canceled their wedding and instead did an impromptu hospital wedding. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only their parents were able to attend — but the event brought them hope.
