(FeaturedNews.com) – On Tuesday, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested by Capitol Police after they had occupied the Cannon Rotunda. The incident occurred one day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled address in front of Congress.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Capitol Police took to the social media platform X to note that they were in the process of arresting a group that had been inside the Cannon Rotunda for their illegal protest. The post noted that it is not allowed for any demonstrations to be taking place within a Congressional Building. It added that they had told those who had legally entered the building that they could either stop or they were going to be arrested. However, as the demonstrators had refused to stop, they ended up arresting them.
Mitchell Rivard, who is the chief of staff of Rep. Dan Kildee, put out a statement noting that the Michigan Democrat’s office had requested assistance from the U.S. Capitol police in large part because of the large demonstrations that were taking place within the building.
In a statement, Rivard noted that the protesters had been disruptive and had even engaged in violent behaviors such as beating the office doors, shouting, and trying to force entry into the office. It further noted that Kildee was safe along with his staff as the U.S. Capitol Police had been there to respond immediately after the incident.
Kildee is one of the Democrats who has been pushing for the Biden administration to halt its delivery of weapons to Israel because of the conflict.
