(FeaturedNews.com) – In Colorado, three armed robbers pretended to be deliverymen to enter a family home and attack two children. The parents had not been home at the time of the home invasion, which took place on June 12, however, they had witnessed the intrusion on a Ring doorbell.
The men had allegedly attacked the babysitter who had been with the children at the time while assaulting the two children, a six-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl.
John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor and retired NYPD Sgt. Joseph Giacalone argued that this is an “old crime” that now has a new twist, as people like them are looking for new ways to gain access to these houses. He added that he was certain the police were concerned about a possible increase in such incidents.
Giacalone pointed out that previously criminals would pose as utility workers to gain access to homes. However, workers now wear distinctive uniforms and have identification cards which has made it harder for criminals to use that scheme.
The home invasion had taken place around 10 miles from downtown Denver, and it was the latest robbery involving fake delivery workers. The ordeal had occurred just after 8:30 p.m. when one of the suspects had come to the door carrying a box and wearing a vest.
The Aurora Police Department had revealed that they were wearing construction vests and had claimed they were dropping off packages for the residents in the house. They had then forced their way into the home and robbed the family.
