( – A Delta Airlines passenger on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was arrested on Saturday after opening the emergency exit door prior to the plane taking off. This move led to the plane’s emergency slides also being activated.

The incident took place at around 10 a.m. EST according to the Los Angeles Airport Police. The unidentified passenger was wearing a striped red and navy sweater and a pair of black pants. Reportedly as the plane was moving away from the gate the passenger rushed to the front of the plane and asked a flight attendant, “what do I do now?”

According to other passengers on the flight, the flight attendant repeatedly told the man that he needed to take a seat, but instead, the man went to the plane’s emergency exit door and turned the latch that would open the door. This led to the emergency slides also being activated and the place stopping.

The man then jumped to the back of a baggage cart where he was held by luggage workers before the police arrived on the scene.

Sgt. Devin Feldman said that following the incident the man has been taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation. The FBI has also been notified about the event.

Delta Air Lines released a statement to Fox News Digital speaking about the incident noting that the flight which was meant to arrive in Seattle had been disrupted by an unruly passenger who had been arrested by local law enforcement.
