Democrats STRIKE – Trump in Trouble?
A grand jury investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol and the 2020 presidential election aftermath is now examining the role of former President Donald Trump’s Save America PAC. This is the latest case following the accusations made by the House January 6 Committee that the group had misled donors after the 2020 election.
The grand jury has now issued subpoenas to many individuals who worked at both the White House and Trump’s campaign. The subpoena is mainly directed at gathering information about the PAC’s fundraising activities as well as how it spent the money it received.
Trump’s Save America PAC was created after the 2020 election and has as of July raised $103.8 million. This is according to the disclosures it made to the Federal Elections Commission.
The House January 6 Committee has now accused Trump of looking for funding for an allegedly fake “Official Election Defense Fund” which would be used to fund Trump’s attempts at overturning the election results.
The PAC is not strict on how money can be spent, and in fact, can use the funding for Trump’s expenses and for putting money towards pro-Trump allies and organizations.
Thousands of dollars in PAC money have been used by Trump’s own business. Allegedly $60,000 payment has been made to Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle for participating in the January 6 rally. Similarly, a $60,000 payment has gone to former First Lady Melania Trump’s stylist and some of it has even been spent on hers and Trump’s presidential portraits.
The investigation into Trump’s Save America PAC and his post-election efforts are only one of the legal issues that the former President is now going against, as recently how he handled classified material has led to a new federal investigation. This is on top of his ongoing civil and criminal investigation in New York.
