1,000 DEAD After Disaster Hits!
(FeaturedNews.com) – In the early hours of June 22, a remote area of Afghanistan suffered from a 6.1 magnitude earthquake. The region is located in an isolated spot along the country’s border, and reports of the damage are scarce. The quake took the lives of at least 1,000 people and injured around 1,500, but officials say those numbers could rise.
Images from the area show people sifting through collapsed homes as others help carry the wounded to helicopters. The damage is so severe because of poor construction and landslides in the mountain region.
A powerful earthquake struck a remote border region of Afghanistan overnight killing at least 920 people and injuring hundreds more, officials said Wednesday, with the toll expected to rise as rescuers dig through collapsed dwellings.

Haibatullah Akhundzada, the supreme leader of Afghanistan, usually hides away from the public. However, he stepped out of the shadows and released a statement, asking for help from other countries and humanitarian groups. Prime Minister Mohammad Hassan Akhund called an emergency meeting to put together relief efforts.
So far, the response to the call for help has been slow. Rescue efforts for the injured must come by helicopter, and many humanitarian organizations fled the country after the Taliban takeover.
Additionally, all relief efforts are channeled through the United Nations as part of an effort to minimize plundering efforts by Taliban officials. However, the process has slowed the movement of supplies and personnel, creating additional challenges for outside groups.
