(FeaturedNews.com) – Indiana police reported the death of a five-year-old boy after his father accidentally ran him over. The incident occurred on the 100 block of Royal Arms Drive at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

St. Joseph County officers who are responsible for the South Bend area stated that the incident had been chaotic. An NBC affiliate WNDU report had stated that the young boy had been shot in the head which had resulted in his grave injury. However, officers later stated that a video from the incident that was being circulated online as well as the claims of what had occurred were incorrect.

Following an investigation, it was determined that the child had actually died after his father accidentally ran him over while they were in the parking lot of the Castle Point playground. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), accidents are the most likely cause of death for children who are between the ages of five and nine.

After being hit accidentally, the child was rushed to the hospital for treatment, however he did not survive the hit and was pronounced dead at the hospital. St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team officers who launched an investigation into the incident have not revealed whether there were going to be any arrests made related to the death of the child.
The Department of Transportation has issued a list of guidelines about how drivers can help ensure that children are safe and protected when around vehicles.
