(FeaturedNews.com) – California Governor Gavin Newsom predicted what is going to happen if Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ends up challenging former President Donald Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination.

Last November, only one week after the 2022 midterm elections, Trump announced that he was running for the White House a third time in the hopes of reclaiming office. According to the polls, he is currently the front runner for the GOP nomination with the only other candidate reaching the double digits in levels of support being DeSantis.

DeSantis has risen in prominence among conservative circles with many people liking his right-wing approach to cultural issues. While he has not yet announced his intentions for 2024 and whether he was going to be joining the presidential race, he is widely considered to be the top Republican challenger who could end up beating Trump for the 2024 nomination.

Political experts have been speculating that DeSantis is going to be launching his presidential campaign in a few months after his state’s legislature ends. A small number of other high-profile Republicans have already announced that they are running for the White House.

Newsom, a Democrat, during an appearance on MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki on Sunday, predicted that if DeSantis was to join the race he would “get rolled by Trump.” He then proceeded to say he would get “thumped.” He then proceeded to advise DeSantis to not challenge Trump and instead return for the GOP nomination in a few years when he is a more “seasoned and capable leader.”
