Gavin Newsom Looking to Regulate Water Usage Amidst California Drought

Democrat Star Calls For WATER RESTRICTIONS – An Ongoing Crisis!

( – According to the National Integrated Drought Information System, California is suffering from moderate to extreme drought conditions over the majority of the state. The ongoing situation led Governor Gavin Newsom (D) to meet with the state’s largest water providers expressing his concerns over the current localized approach on May 23. He noted he would have to enact mandatory water usage restrictions if local conservation efforts failed.

Previously, Newsom agreed to allow water agencies to enact policies and handle conservation efforts at the local level because they argued it would be the best approach. Now, he wants to see more results. Over half of the state is in extreme drought status, causing problems for farming and livestock industries. The issue introduces a severe threat to animals and people from lack of water availability and increased risk of wildfires.

The California governor asked the agencies to report usage data more often than they are currently. He wants to see increased transparency and improved information to allow for better-informed decisions moving forward. Newsom said he would meet with the agencies again in two months to reassess. He urged everyone to “be more thoughtful about how to make every drop count,” especially as water usage increases with the incoming summertime.
