(FeaturedNews.com) – A new survey by Zing Coach has found that the majority of Generation Z is looking for medical advice on TikTok, arguing that responses on the platform are free and fast.
In the poll, it was found that 56 percent of Gen Z respondents had been using the social media platform for fitness, diet, and wellness advice and that many are using the platform as their predominant form of health advice. Among those surveys, 34 percent had stated that TikTok is where they were getting the majority of their medical advice and information.
The results also showed that 14 percent were reaching out to friends for medical advice, 13 percent used Google and only 11 percent were seeking advice from qualified trainers or doctors.
When asked the reason why they were choosing to get their medical advice from the popular social media app, 40 percent noted that it was free, while 22 percent argued that it was fast. Finally, another 5 percent argued that it was because the app was not trying to sell them something.
Over the past few months TikTok has faced a lot of scrutiny as President Joe Biden even signed a bill that would potentially fully ban the platform in the country. Since then, the platform has filed a legal case against the administration arguing that the law is violating the First Amendment.
The poll noted that 66 percent of Gen Z had also argued that they trusted TikTok videos if they came from an athlete, nutritionist, or doctor. This result suggested that Gen Z users might also be more likely to fall for misinformation as they don’t cross-check the information.
