(FeaturedNews.com) – George Clooney praised Biden for displaying “true leadership” by withdrawing from the 2024 Presidential race.
On Tuesday, in a statement to CNN, Clooney said President Joe Biden had “shown what true leadership is” when he withdrew from the race, claiming the President is “saving democracy once again.” He also announced he’d be backing Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential bid, revealing his excitement to “support Vice President Harris in her historic quest.”
Earlier in the month, the Academy Award-winning actor wrote an op-ed for the New York Times, calling on Biden, 81, to end his reelection bid amid concerns about his age and its impact on his physical and mental sharpness.
His op-ed rocked the political world and Hollywood, as Clooney had been an avid Biden supporter in the past.
Weeks before the Times piece, Clooney hosted a star-studded fundraiser for the President. But, changed his tune in the op-ed, claiming Democrats were “not going to win in November with this president.”
In his op-ed, Clooney insisted his concerns stemmed from Biden’s age, something many other Democrats had become concerned about following his disastrous debate performance.
Then, on Sunday, after insisting for nearly a month that he’d remain in the race, Biden withdrew. In a statement, he called serving America as President the “greatest honor of my life.”
Biden claimed withdrawing from the race was “in the best interest of my party and the country,” but clarified he would complete his term as President.
Later that same day, he endorsed Harris.
