Greedy Pastor Receives a Godly Lesson
Pastor Carlton Funderburke could be seen in a video calling those in his congregation broke for not giving their money as part of a fundraiser for not helping him get a new watch. The moment quickly went viral and soon it led to the Pastor releasing an apology video.
Funderburke, who is the Senior Pastor of Church at the Well in Kansas City, shared his apology video on Tuesday. In the video, he said that while there is context missing from the released clip, that context doesn’t eliminate the pain his words caused. He also said that he spoke to his superiors and has received corrections and instructions. He further apologized to the Church and thanked them for their love and support.
The viral clip was filmed during the congregation and shows Funderburke calling those present “poor, broke, busted, and disgusting” individuals who had failed to “honor” him. During the sermon, he had also made comments about a Movado watch, which the “cheap sons and daughters” of the church had failed to help him get, even though he had asked a year ago.
In his apology video, Funderburke said that the comments he made do not “reflect my heart or my sentiments toward God’s people.” Even though this was not something anyone watching the clip would be able to know. He also said that there is no justification for his actions and he regrets what he did.
