(FeaturedNews.com) – After almost a decade in service Rex, a K-9 from Pennsylvania, is going to be hanging up his leash. Rex is known for having helped in the recent search of Danilo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer, and for locating more than 100 suspect apprehensions which have led to the seizure of hundreds of pounds of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, meth, and marijuana.

Lower Paxton Township Police Department Cpl. Chad Miller told Fox News that with the assistance of Rex, they have been able to assist in some important cases and have assisted in serious criminals getting caught. Miller added that a dog can help enhance the police department’s abilities in both locating and apprehending drugs and criminals. He further noted that dogs can be important in crime prevention and stated that it was incredible how much a dog could help them perform their work better.

The nine-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd has been working since he was young and last month had his official retirement ceremony. During his time in service, he was part of 107 tracks, 110 apprehensions, 43 articles searches, 51 building searches, 5 prison narcotics searches, and 43 school narcotics searches.

The Lower Paxton Township supervisor chairman Lowman Henry stated that Rex has served in the force incredibly and has helped keep their community safe. He also praised Miller for his work in training Rex, and added that he was looking forward to seeing Miller work with Six, the police force’s new K-9.
