(FeaturedNews.com) – Timothy Parlatore, a former Trump lawyer, defended the former President by claiming that the classified documents probe was similar to Hillary Clinton’s email case.
The DOJ has been investigating Trump over his handling of classified documents after leaving the White House in January 2021. Last August, the FBI had the warrant to search Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in order to retrieve any classified documents that the former president was storing there. The raid of Mar-a-Lago came months after a grand jury had sent Trump a subpoena in May 2022 asking for the return of all documents that had classification markings. Trump was indicted for the classified documents case on June 8.
Trump has maintained that he has committed no wrongdoings in connection to this case and claimed that all of the documents found in his home had been declassified before he left office. Following Trump’s launch of his third presidential campaign, special counsel Jack Smith was appointed to oversee the investigation.
In an interview on Sunday, host Chuck Todd had asked Parlatore whether he would be surprised to see Trump not have any charges in connection to this case. In response, Parlatore said that he would not be surprised at all. He added that every case is examined based on facts of the law, which determines whether it is reasonable to prosecute a certain case.
He noted that even if Trump had done many of the things they are alleging that he did, there are still reasons why they would choose to not prosecute him. He proceeded to say that in 2016, he had also believed that Clinton should not face prosecution because of several other issues.
