Khodayari was outside his home in Tehran at the time of the assassination. Iranian officials continue to search for the people responsible. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) labeled this incident an act of terrorism. They credited it to “global arrogance,” a phrase the group frequently uses to point fingers at Israel or the United States. The Jerusalem Post reported that officials in the country warned there would be severe consequences for the colonel’s killing.
The Times of Israel said Khodayari was known as a “defender of the sanctuary.” The term means someone who conducts Tehran’s operations in Iraq and Syria as a member of the Quds Force. Some reports stated he was behind several plots to kidnap Israeli citizens. He also served under the late general Qassem Soleimani.
So far, nobody has taken credit for the assassination. The Times of Israel said Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz wouldn’t comment on the situation.
Could the colonel’s death be retaliation for the attacks he ordered against Israel?
