Judge Deals Major Blow to Desantis
A state judge ordered that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) needs to release all the requested documents that detail the two migrant flights organized by DeSantis. DeSantis has 20 days to provide the necessary documentation regarding the flights that landed in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.
The Florida Center for Government Accountability (FCGA) has also requested for several documents relating to the flight to be released. They also told the court that DeSantis has refused to cooperate and provide the files requested. DeSantis’ attorneys have however said that the governor had not been giving enough time to supply the documents and that they would be releasing the documents requested as well as additional documents by Dec. 1.
The judge’s oral ruling stated that it would be unlawful for DeSantis to delay giving access to the requested documents. Michael Barfield, FCGA’s director of public access, spoke about the ruling that has not yet appeared in writing.
Bryan Griffin, DeSantis’s press secretary, has said that the governor would be appealing the ruling. As Griffin noted, this ruling came at a time when Florida has been devastated by a big Hurricane, and they have always produced many documents and will continue to do so promptly.
DeSantis was the third Republican governor to arrange for the transportation of migrants away from border states and towards the north of the country. The governors have maintained that the transportation of migrants is meant to help draw attention to the border crisis and the influx of immigrants that have been allowed to enter the country. Democrats have maintained that this is merely a political game from the Republican side.
