(FeaturedNews.com) – On Monday, during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, LeBron James is going to be one of Team USA’s flag bearers. Previously James had helped Team USA Basketball win in both the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2012 Olympics in London, making him a two-time gold medalist.

In a statement, James noted that it was an honor representing his country on the global stage, and especially in a moment that was helping bring everyone in the world together. He added that this was a big responsibility not only to himself but also to his family, other kids from his hometown of Akron, his teammates and other Olympians, and everyone around the country who had big aspirations. He finished his statement by pointing out that sports had the power to unite and that he was proud of playing a part during this “important moment.”

James was nominated to be the country’s flag bearer by Stephen Curry. In his own statement, Curry noted that they understood the honor that came with bearing the flag and that James’ entire career had spoken to why he was worthy of being selected for this honor.

Curry pointed out that Lebron James has showcased “what it means to be excellent both on and off the court” and that he has always been committed to bringing his community up.

James was one of the NBC Stars on the 2008 USA Basketball team that has been nicknamed the “Redeem Team” after the bronze medal that the team had received in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
