South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said during a meeting with reporters at the time of former President’s Trump first impeachment that he is a “lying mother******”. This was about claims the then-president had made attempts to defend himself against allegations of extorting the Ukrainian government for information that could prove damaging to his political rivals.
Graham, who has previously publicly defended Trump, has according to the newly released excerpt from the book The Divider: Trump in the White House 2017-2021, told authors Peter Baker and Susan Glasser that he know of Trump’s actions before the call, but had said that impeaching him would have been “insane” because of the hold the then-President held on the party.
Allegedly, Graham had said that even if Trump had killed 50 of their people it still would not have mattered. He also noted that Trump was a “fun guy” to associate with.
For those who have followed the relationship between the two men these statements don’t appear out of line. Graham had previously renounced any political relationship with Trump after January 6, 2021, but quickly backtracked and started supporting Trump and his policies once again.
So far, Graham has refused to testify regarding his communication with Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office in regards to any possible attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Graham has also been angered by the Capitol riot event and about the prospect of pardons for those who looted the Capitol and still, he has remained open regarding the allegations and FBI finding from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
