(FeaturedNews.com) – On Friday, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to warn that should Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) become the next House Speaker, then the Republicans would lose the House majority in the next election.

In her post, she argued that should Jordan be nominated by the Republicans for the Speakership then the party would be “abandoning the Constitution” and further added that they would then deservedly lose control of the House.

In a Tuesday vote, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) won the Republican nomination with 113 votes in his favor, while 99 Republicans voted for Jordan. However, on Thursday night, Scalise dropped out of the race after he was unable to gain sufficient support for his bid by the Republican conference.

A day later, Rep. Austin Scott from Georgia also entered the race stating that he wanted to lead the House towards working for the benefit of the American people.

Cheney had stated last week during a speech that she does not expect that Jordan will be able to get the necessary votes in order to become the House Speaker. She added that if he did win, there would be no way to claim that a group of elected Republicans were going to defend the U.S. Constitution.
