(FeaturedNews.com) – According to some sources who have not spoken to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell or former President Donald Trump, there were attempts to unite the two politicians and have McConnell endorse Trump in his attempt to win back the White House in 2024.
One source familiar with the case argued that they had reached the part in the primary where the party was uniting. They added that the worst thing that could potentially happen to the country was to elect Joe Biden for another term, which is why it is likely that the two sides are going to coalesce within the next few months.
The New York Times which was the first to report on the possible endorsement and conversations that had been occurring between McConnell, Trump’s campaign adviser Chris LaCivita, and political strategist Josh Holmes the efforts had started last month around the time of the Iowa caucuses.
Both McConnell and Trump had been aware of the talks.
In late January, Trump had told people that he had expected to receive the endorsement from McConnell. If he does receive this endorsement it would indicate to donors and anti-Trump Republicans that supporting Trump in order to defeat President Joe Biden, was an acceptable choice.
McConnell had previously placed the blame on Trump for being both “practically and morally responsible” for the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021. However, he has also claimed that he would be endorsing whoever ended up being the party’s nominee.
Steven Cheung, the communications director for the former President, pointed out that Trump was the presumptive nominee and that it was time for everyone in the party to support him in order to defeat Biden.
