The upcoming midterm elections are bound to affect several people both in the Democratic and Republican parties. For some senior members of Congress, the election could also signify a change in their careers. The following people have the most stake in the upcoming election.
1. President Biden
If the Democrats don’t retain control of the House, then Biden will have a hard time passing any domestic policies and legislation. It could also potentially lead to a more in-depth investigation against his son Hunter Biden and even the entire Biden family.
2. Former President Trump
Trump has been actively campaigning for this midterm election trying to get his endorsed candidates’ seats. If his candidates do win the upcoming election, then it will show just how much influence he has in the Republican party.
3. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R)
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is up for reelection, but if he fails to win the midterm elections, then the odds of him placing a successful bid for the White House drop. DeSantis is currently seen as one of the most plausible choices for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and is widely perceived to be one of the few people who could beat Trump.
4. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)
Nancy Pelosi has been leading House Democrats for close to two decades. However, if the Democrats lose the House, then it is likely that Pelosi will lose her leadership position. She would also stop being Speaker as the House majority would no longer be Democrats.
5. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.)
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) has been one of the most outspoken critics of Donald Trump from the Republican camp. While she is no longer running, after losing the primary, she has gone ahead and endorsed several Democratic candidates. She is also actively working to ensure that as few as possible of Donald Trump’s supporters get elected.
