Mitch McConnell’s Potential Replacement Revealed
Former President Trump has said that if wins the presidency in 2024 he would force Senate Republicans to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell (Ky.). He also said that Sen. Rick Scott (Fla.) is a “likely candidate” and that he would endorse him.
During an interview on Monday night with Fox News Digital, right after Trump’s rally in Dayton, Ohio, where Trump supported Senate candidate J.D. Vance, Trump criticized McConnell and called him a “lousy leader.”
He then proceeded to praise Scott, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and former two-term governor of Florida, adding that he is incredibly underrated. Scott has predicted that in the midterm elections Senate Republicans would manage to pick up anywhere between two and five Senate seats.
However, he also became the center of attention this past weekend after declining to endorse McConnell for the Senate Republican leadership. Reportedly Scott told NBC host Chuck Todd that currently he was only focused on Election Day.
With Trump’s recent comments there have been even further speculations about Scott’s plans. Trump also noted that Scott greatly dislikes McConnell and is tough, which is why Trump would support him a lot.
Trump also said that the public is upset with McConnell. As he claimed in part this is because McConnell denounced Trump’s unfounded claims about the presidential elections being stolen in 2020. However, Trump also said that currently, he doesn’t have enough support to be able to remove McConnell from his position.
