(FeaturedNews.com) – On Tuesday, President Biden delivered his second State of the Union address. The main point that Biden tried to drive home throughout his speech related to bipartisanship and unity, and while he managed to create some such moments, there were also moments of heckling during the over an hour speech.
There were many moments that helped shape the State of the Union address, including the following:
1. Greene shouting that Biden is a ‘liar’
President Biden during his speech said that there were some members of the GOP who were trying to sunset Social Security and Medicare. This was met with a lot of shouts from the GOP and most remarkably, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) getting up and calling Biden a “liar.”
Many Republicans however were showing their disapproval by shaking their head during that moment, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
Biden then added that he was glad to have those who questioned that contact his office so that he could provide the proof. To this many in the Republicans continued to boo, which led to Biden laughing and saying that he was glad that all of them disagreed that Social Security and Medicare should be off the table. He added that he liked conversations and that they “got unanimity.”
2. Standing ovation for Tyre Nichols’s parents
A rare emotional moment also took place during the address as the parts of Tyre Nichols were introduced. Nichols was the black man who was beaten to death by police in Memphis last month. His parents attended the State of the Union address and were officially introduced by Biden. In response to their introduction, lawmakers from both sides applauded them.
