Nine People Left BLOODIED After Horrifying Attack
(FeaturedNews.com) – Some unusual circumstances lie just under the surface of a recent mass-shooting story from Cincinnati, Ohio. In an age when it seems these types of events almost always end with unimaginable death and a suspect either in custody or deceased, what happened in a busy downtown bar on Sunday is anything but typical.
A Nightmare Unfolds
Footage posted by the Cincinnati Enquirer shows people running from a chaotic scene. The incident itself, however, wasn’t like most other shootings, in which a single gunman comes locked and loaded to do significant damage. Police were already present at the scene, dispersing a large and unruly crowd in front of Mr. Pitiful’s Bar when shots rang out.
Witnesses said they heard between 20 to 30 rounds, and in the end, nine people were wounded. In yet another uncommon turn of events — this one more positive — none of the injuries were life-threatening.
When the firing began, cops from the city’s Civil Disturbance Response Team jumped into action, moving immediately toward a suspected shooter. An officer fired at the perpetrator, who fled into a nearby park. Other shots heard during the altercation led investigators to believe there was more than one shooter. They used low-grade explosive balls to move the crowd and secure the scene.
Lieutenant Colonel Mike John said in a press conference that the victims were eight men and one woman, all between the ages of 24 and 47. Officers applied tourniquets, a common tool carried by police in departments across the country, and applied other first aid to wounded patrons at the scene.
A Growing Problem in Ohio
Sunday’s shooting may have happened differently than many of the other recent high-profile incidents, but that doesn’t make it less of a problem. Mayor Aftab Pureval (D) mentioned in the same press conference that this crime differs from typical gun violence in the past, which was almost always centered around the drug trade. He called the prevalence of gun violence a “devastating trend” and asked citizens to work with authorities to end disagreements without such drastic measures.
A shooting last Friday in Butler has cops on a manhunt for a 39-year-old man they say murdered four people in a spree that may have involved mental illness.
The latest round of violence has also turned into a massive search, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives working in tandem with the Cincinnati police to offer a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
What do you think is the root cause of this seemingly out-of-control problem?
