(FeaturedNews.com) – Auma Obama, the half-sister of former President Barack Obama and Kenyan activist was reportedly tear-gassed during a Nairobi protest against the finance legislation. According to the reports she was tear-gassed on Monday before speaking to CNN during the protest.

There have been widespread protests across Kenya relating to the newest legislation that would increase taxation for citizens. Auma noted while cleaning her face and talking with CNN that she could not even see anymore as they were being tear-gassed. She added that she could not believe that protesters were being handled like that and that young people were just attempting to demonstrate their rights.

The video footage from CNN shows that the scene in Kenya had turned chaotic as some protesters were holding signs while wearing masks and goggles. In the video, CNN reporter Larry Madowo and the rest of the crew had moved away from the area as they tried to escape the tear gas smoke.

Obama argued that the reason she was here was because young Kenyans were demonstrating for their rights holding banners and flags. According to the report by CNN, the protests were opposing the Finance Bill 2024 under the “7 Days of Rage” banner. On Tuesday the bill passed while demonstrators continued to oppose it.

On Tuesday, AP reported that a part of the parliament building had caught on fire amid the protest. Journalists noted that there were at least three bodies located outside of the building. The protesters had also moved police in order to be able to enter the building after the bill was passed.
