(FeaturedNews.com) – On Tuesday, liberal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned her followers that there is an account impersonating her that has been going viral ever since Twitter CEO Elon Musk “engaged” with it and helped boost its visibility.

She specifically noted that the account was putting out fake policy statements and was gaining traction. Ocasio-Cortez, along with her team, were attempting to figure out how to proceed in regards to this account, but for now, she urged her followers to be cautious of what they see.

Only minutes later, the parody account labeled “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Press Release (parody),” mocked Ocasio-Cortez for her statement. As they wrote, she is currently working with her staff and attempting to get Congress to shut down any people who to make fun of her or put out jokes about her.

A different post from the parody account stated that AOC was having her staff report every single tweet making fans of her to the Department of Justice.

The fake Ocasio-Cortez account has the bio “Saying the quiet part out loud. (parody),” and has the same photo as the account that Ocasio-Cortez uses for her official Twitter account. However, Ocasio-Cortez’s account also has a gray check mark next to it, which helps legitimize its existence and represents that it is government property.

In contrast, the fake account has a blue checkmark, which is available to Twitter Blue subscribers who pay $8 a month and whose accounts are not “misleading and deceptive.” The account has managed to get approximately 100,000 followers and has released many false and misleading statements.

Is AOC right to be upset, or is this an overreaction?
