(FeaturedNews.com) – The New York Police Department reported that on Monday afternoon during a shooting at a Bronx subway station, there were five people injured and one person killed.

The victims included two females and three males, while the person who died was a 34-year-old male. The police noted that the injuries sustained by the females were not life-threatening, however, all the victims were taken to area hospitals.

An NYPD spokesperson informed Fox News Digital that there had been shots fired at the Mount Eden Avenue station close to 4:30 p.m. The police noted that they believed the shooting to be the result of a dispute between two teens who had started to fire at each other as the train reached the station. At least one of the shots was noted to have been fired as the doors opened, which resulted in panic as the passengers attempted to escape. According to police, the victims had been caught in the crossfire.

The NYPD has noted that they believe there were two shooters involved, however, currently, no suspects have been arrested. NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information in a statement noted that the two suspects were on the department’s most wanted list and called for them to turn themselves in.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul in a statement noted that she had been briefed on the shooting and that she had directed the MTA to give all necessary assistance during the investigation. She also thanked first responders and the police for their work in this situation.
