Widespread Recall Hits Popular Ice Cream Brands

A large-scale recall has been announced affecting several ice cream brands sold at Target and Wegmans due to the presence of undeclared allergens. The recall primarily involves “My/Mochi Peach Mango Sorbet,” which may contain undeclared egg, a common allergen that can cause severe reactions in sensitive individuals.

The recall affects six-count packages with UPC number “0-70934-99868-1” and lot codes “337-24” or “341-24.” Approximately 1,350 cases of the peach mango sorbet have been distributed nationwide, including at Wegmans locations and about 100 Target stores.

Health Risks and Consumer Advice

Consuming undeclared allergens can lead to severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be potentially fatal. Eggs are one of the nine major food allergens recognized by the FDA and are particularly common among children. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, emphasizing the importance of accurate food labeling.

Consumers who have purchased the affected products are strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, they should return the items to the place of purchase for a full refund. So far, two cases of minor allergic reactions have been reported in connection with this recall.

Recall Details and Company Response

The labeling issue was reportedly due to a temporary malfunction in the company’s packaging process. A spokesperson for My/Mochi described the scope of the recall as “really small,” despite affecting multiple states and retail locations.

Wegmans, which operates in the District of Columbia and eight states (NY, NJ, PA, MA, DE, MD, VA, and NC), is actively participating in the recall efforts. Customers with questions or concerns can contact the company directly at 1-844-696-6244 for more information.

Consumers are advised to stay informed about product recalls and to carefully check food labels, especially if they or their family members have known allergies.
