Republican Party Divided Over Trump

The Republican Party, which had high hopes for the midterm elections, is currently at odds with former President Trump. Trump officially launched his presidential campaign during an event at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Tuesday night. However, this time the announcement came during a time of political vulnerability as many are blaming Trump and his selected candidates for the disappointing midterm election results.

There have also been some who wonder whether Trump has chosen to start his campaign so early in order to avoid potential charges and criminal indictments. Trump is currently facing a number of legal threats, as he is under investigation over his attempt to overturn the election results in Georgia, the documents that were seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate by the FBI, and even his role in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Many had also hoped that Trump would delay any announcements until the runoff elections in Georgia had been completed. However, Trump himself proceeded with his announcement as previously teased. However, during his speech he did urge voters to vote for Walker in the upcoming election in Georgia.

Trump is also not very favored in the media currently, as the New York Post recently ran a front page calling Trump “Trumpty Dumpty” after the midterm election results. Even the announcement of his presidential campaign did not help him land on the newspaper’s front page instead the announcement was placed on page 26.
