Republicans Target Trump Following 2024 Run Announcement

Former President Trump’s recent announcement that he would be seeking another term in the White House has not been received as warmly as he might have hoped for as many key Republicans have not said whether they would support or challenge him in 2024.

As soon as Trump launched his campaign, his most loyal allies were quick to support him. However, many have been critical of him, especially following the performance of many of his selected GOP candidates who did not manage to win their midterm elections.

This could potentially make it easier for people like Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), as well as others in the GOP to challenge Trump. One Republican strategist also pointed to the speech that Trump gave to point out that there was a lot of space left for others to interject. This was especially true as he started presenting himself as the “victim” instead of forming a good argument about why he is a great option to run again.

However, Trump has often been dismissed. In fact, when he launched his original candidacy in 2015, many Republicans had dismissed his bid for the White House and had considered him an attention-seeking pariah and not a serious contender.

Ford O’Connell, a Republican strategist and former congressional candidate noted that Trump should not be counted out and that he is still a favorite. He also pointed out that Trump may want to appear as the outsider again as a campaign trick.
