A member of the House select committee investigating Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot has said that the actions taken by former President Donald Trump’s actions are a “pretty good match” for the United States insurrection statutes.

Representative Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, who is one of the six Democrats in the eight-person committee, has said that the group’s final hearing will take place on Monday, and they will decide there what criminal referrals they will make based on the evidence they have.

Trump is widely considered to be one of the people who will be targeted by those referrals according to sources. Some sources have also told Politico that the committee is set to have a vote on whether the former president will be referred for “insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government.” They added that all referrals will then have to be handed to the Department of Justice, and it will be up to them to decide whether they will proceed with any charges.

Schiff appeared on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday where he discussed with host Jake Tapper whether or not he believed that Trump’s actions were enough for charges to be pressed. Schiff said that he could not comment on the committee’s intentions, but that in his opinion, Trump would fit the bill to give some criminal charges against him.
