House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have both said that President Joe Biden should seek reelection in 2024, despite some Democrats insisting on having a new generation of younger leaders lead the party.
In an interview with CNN, Pelosi said “The vision, the knowledge, and the strategic thinking” are all things Biden possesses that have made him a great president.
Schumer, in the same interview, said that he was completely supportive of Biden running for the White House again.
Biden, who last month turned 80, is the oldest US president to hold office. He has previously said that he is fully intent on running for office again but that he would not be making any official decisions until the new year.
The Democratic Party had a good midterm election cycle as they managed to not only maintain the Senate majority, but also limit the Republican gains in the House. There have however still been many Democrats who have avoided all discussions about whether or not Biden would be the party’s nominee in 2024.
While most Democrats appear to back the idea of Biden seeking reelection, there are also those who want someone younger to lead the party. This is a trend throughout the Democratic party with Pelosi, 82, announcing that she would no longer be the House Democratic leader after the expiration of this Congress.
