(FeaturedNews.com) – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) blasted the Supreme Court following their Monday decision to protect former President Donald Trump from prosecution in the federal election interference case.
Schumer referred to the 6-3 decision as “disgraceful” and argued that the former President was going to be weakening the U.S. democracy by breaking the law. He added that this is a “sad day” for both democracy and America and that the country’s judicial system is built on the premise that no one is above the law. He noted that “incitement of insurrection” or “treason” should not be considered a “constitutional power” possessed by the president.
In his warning, Schumer agreed with other Senate Democrats’ criticisms that the conservative justices in the Supreme Court have undermined the credibility of the highest court as their recent decision has turned them into partisan players and that political influence has taken over the courts.
On Monday the Supreme Court ruled that Trump has immunity from prosecution for any official acts that he had taken during his time in office. However, it called lower courts to determine whether Trump’s actions leading up to Jan. 6, 2021, were taken in a private or official capacity.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter Senate Judiciary Committee member Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.). He added that he was angry about democracy being in danger because the Court is “out of control.” He noted that the conservative majority of the Court is going to be viewed by Americans as partisan and extreme “politicians in robes.”
Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), who is also in the Judiciary Committee, argued that the Committee has completely “lost” its credibility.
