The potential GOP presidential contenders have slowly been gearing up following the midterm elections and many are speculating about who will place a bid for the White House.

On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump announced that he would be running for the White House again. This is something that he has teased ever since losing the 2020 presidential election. While the former President has managed to remain relatively popular within the GOP, the recent midterm elections have also led to many within the party criticizing him for the underwhelming performance of GOP candidates.

However, while Trump is currently leading many polls for the 2024 election, it is possible that other candidates may be able to win the GOP nomination.

Longtime leading Republican fundraiser David Tamasi, who had campaigned for Trump in 2016 and 2020, is no longer a supporter of the former President. He also claimed that top donors are sick of funding losing campaigns.

Republican Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire also said that Trump’s candidacy announcement “does not clear the field.”

Especially after the midterm elections, Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has appeared to be considered one of the de facto leaders of the Republican party. DeSantis did not only manage to win his own reelection by a landslide, but he also managed to flip certain predominantly Democratic areas within his state. This has helped increase his support and popularity with GOP voters.

During his victory speech following the elections, the crowd was loudly chanting “two more years! Two more years.” Still, DeSantis himself has not announced whether he would be running for the White House.
