(FeaturedNews.com) – On Sunday, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) slammed Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) over his ability to govern and noted that currently. At the same time, he is the Speaker, sharing his position with former President Trump, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” Swalwell argued that McCarthy was “a spectator Speaker” and that while he had the title on paper, he shared his position with the three other GOP members. He further claimed that the problem with McCarthy is that he worries about potentially losing his job. Still, he is not considering the effect of not paying the country’s troops, air traffic controllers, and border agents. This was about the possible government shutdown, which could start on October 1 if Congress does not manage to pass a bill.
Currently, the House appears unlikely to pass the 12 appropriation bills they would need to pass by the end of the month. They also seem like they will pass a continuing resolution, providing more time for the lawmakers to pass the appropriation bills and avoid a government shutdown.
Throughout his time as the Speaker, McCarthy has had to deal with the many different factions of the Republican party while also attempting to appease them to pass legislation and avoid a possible shutdown. Swalwell further argued that McCarthy does not only need to handle the demands of the House Republicans but also of former President Donald Trump.
