(FeaturedNews.com) – Candace Kanavel, a SWAT team member from Tempe, Arizona, is going to become the first law enforcement officer to participate in the Miss USA pageant. The police Department issued a press release on Friday noting Kanavel’s participation.

In an interview with Phoenix ABC affiliate KNXV, Kanavel revealed that she wanted to give those who were not involved in law enforcement insight into what the life of officers was like. She added that they have a family, hobbies, and other things in their lives that are not related to their career.

In May, the SWAT hostage negotiator was crowned Miss Arizona. As Kanavel, 27, revealed there were many similarities between the two roles. She added that in both cases she was empowering people but that she was completing that job while wearing different uniforms. As she said, society is firm in trying to place people into boxes but rather than being limited by those boxes, she encourages people to embrace everything that they are interested in and instead live their lives fearlessly. She then pointed out that if she was able to do it, then so was everyone else.

Kanavel in an Instagram post revealed that one of her future goals was meeting Sandra Bullock who starred in “Miss Congeniality” as an FBI Special Agent who went undercover at a beauty pageant.

The 2023 Miss USA pageant is going to be held in Reno, Nevada at the Grand Sierra Resort. The winner will receive their crown from North Carolina’s Morgan Romano who won the title in 2022.
