TikToker Under Investigation After Posting Crime Online
A social media influencer posted a TikTok video hitting a golf ball into the Grand Canyon. Following the hit, she also “threw” the gold club into the canyon.
The National Park Service proceeded to use the information provided by members of the public to identify the woman from the video. The also posted a relevant statement on the Facebook account recounting how on October 26, the woman had thrown the ball and club into the Grand canyon from an area near Mather Point.
The video has since been deleted from TikTok, but has been re-shared on Reddit where it is possible to see that the club breaks in two and falls into the canyon.
By October 27, Grand Canyon Law Enforcement had located the individual from the video.
The Grand Canyon is a unique national park that has strict rules in place to ensure that the space is not littered and manages to retain its natural beauty. Those who litter the canyon can face large fines and even imprisonment.
It is also important to note that proper waste disposal allows the canyon to continue being the habitat of 450 species of bird, 91 species of mammal, 58 reptiles and amphibians, 18 fish, and 1,443 invertebrates, some of which are unique to the grand canyon.
This is not the first time a golf ball incident has taken place in the canyon. Such incidents could have large effects that extend beyond littering, as the ball could cause an injury to wildlife or could even trigger a landslide.
