Former President Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against the Pulitzer Prize board on Wednesday. As he notes, the group made a defamatory statement after there were two independent reviews one of which was requested by Trump regarding stories that dealt with the Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Ultimately, the board rejected Trump’s request to revoke the awards received by the staff of the New York Times and the Washington Post after saying that there were “no passages or headlines, contentions or assertions in any of the winning submissions were discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes.”

Trump’s suit was filed in Okeechobee County, Fla., and according to the report by Fox News, it claims that the board has acted with malice and sought to damage Trump’s reputation. This is why Trump is looking for an unspecified amount to be paid in damages.
Trump has often used court cases to fight against some of his opponents. This is a practice he employed even before his presidency.

In the suit, it is also alleged that there are inaccuracies in the statement made by the Pulitzer board. As they note, at the time of the independent review, the conclusions reached by the Pulitzer board would have been impossible to reach.
