In a post on Truth Social, Trump congratulated Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for winning the Speakership after a particularly long vote. He then proceeded to tell his followers that it was time for McConnell to be stopped. In these latest comments about McConnell, Trump resorted to once again using what can be perceived as racist comments against McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.

In the post, Trump wrote that McConnell does not appear to “care anymore” and that instead, he has been handing the Democrats anything they want, including a $1.7 trillion package. He added that McConnell has also not done anything to help secure the border and that if he had waited for the new Congress instead of passing the spending bill, the situation would be significantly better.

In his comments, he also encouraged his followers to stop supporting the Republican Senators that have voted for McConnell in the past. He specifically called for them to “PRIMARY THEM ALL!!!”

McConnell has often received criticism from former President Trump, especially after the Senator blasted Trump after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Since then Trump has repeatedly called for McConnell to be challenged. However, Trump’s comments come at a time when his control over the GOP appears to be waning.

Many Republicans have been overly critical of Trump and have even blamed him for the results of the midterm elections as many Trump-backed candidates failed to secure the required wins in the general election.
