(FeaturedNews.com) – Following the backlash received by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson after his social media post calling for his followers to donate to the Maui wildfires, the actor has now apologized. Johnson and Oprah Winfrey launched the People’s Fund of Maui following the August wildfires that resulted in large parts of the island and its communities being destroyed.
The two stars called for their followers to contribute to the fund while also pledging a combined $10 million that would go into the fund.
In a video on Instagram, Johnson stated that he completely understood why they had been criticized and that they should have acted better. He promised to be better in the future and acknowledged that there were many people in the world who were living “paycheck to paycheck.” As he argued, this was something he was familiar with as he too has lived that way in the past.
Johnson said that while he cannot speak for anyone else’s emotions, he remembers that when he was living paycheck to paycheck he would easily get frustrated and angered. He then pointed out that under these conditions, the last thing he ever wanted to hear was for someone to ask for his money, especially when the person asking had a lot of money.
Johnson proceeded to say that he understood and that he had never before embarked on launching a fund, but that he was a quick learner and he understood his mistake. He added that whether he did something people loved or people hated, they needed to let him know.
