VIDEO: Marriage Proposal Goes Viral for All the Wrong Reasons

The kiss cam at a National Hockey League (NHL) game caught the moment when a proposal went amiss. The video, which has since gone viral on Twitter, shows a shirtless man on one knee asking a woman to marry him in the aisle of New York’s UBS Arena. This was during a game between the New York Islanders and the Florida Panthers. The man’s chest also had on it the words “PLZ SAY YES YES YES,” a reference to an Islanders tradition where they chant the words after a goal is scored.

The woman was holding her hand over her mouth, but the kiss cam cut away before the big reply was given. This might have been for the best as the woman reportedly leaned in and whispered something private to the man before making her exit.

The rejected man then had to take his seat once again and drink his beer alone as 20,000 had viewed this embarrassing moment.

Many on social media have been questioning whether the proposal was real or not. David Marcus, a spectator who filmed the scene, said that he did not think it was a stunt. He also said on Twitter that the man was shirtless for two minutes and had teared up, so it certainly did not look fake.

Jaime Bronstein, a licensed relationship therapist, has said that while public proposals can be healthy for extroverted people, they might also not be a good option if they are used as a way of pressuring the other person to say yes.
