(FeaturedNews.com) – A couple has gone viral on TikTok after posting a video in which they are contemplating whether they should eat meat for the first time in nearly a decade. Since its posting, the video has amassed over 921,000 likes.

The clip was shared by user @asparagus.tempura, the TikTok account of a Kentucky-based animal shelter worker. The video also had a text message overlaid which read: “Vegetarians eating meat for the first time in 7 years.” In the video, a man can be seen looking through a food menu sitting at a table in a restaurant.

In 2020, 61 percent of Millennial and Generation Z women and 34 percent of men have stated that they follow a vegetarian diet. The survey was conducted by Statista, a marketing and data online platform.

The Journal Proceedings of the Nutrition Society in an August 2016 study spoke about the long term health benefits of following a vegetarian diet, and that in some cases it can be better than a meat-based diet. According to the study, “vegetarians have a lower prevalence of overweight and obesity and a lower risk of IHD [Ischaemic heart disease, also known as coronary heart disease] compared with non-vegetarians from a similar background, whereas the data are equivocal for stroke.” They are also at a lower risk for diabetes, eye cataract, and other diverticular diseases.

The latest viral TikTok video from the couple chewing with a text overlay that reads: “Contemplating our decision.”
